Ode to Complacency

She is alone.
The sweet girl with the blue jacket
the sweet girl in the black jeans
She knows how to collect dust
she's a collector of dust
Dust on the bookcase
Dust on the man she loves
Dust on the ring around her mattress
Ring around the mattress
she sings out in the morning
The sweet girl blows dust on her rising song
She knows how to sew pockets
There she collects stones
She’s a collector of stones
Stones rest on the color pallets
Stones weigh down words
Stones block the entrance of thought to words
Words gather in her throat
Stones weigh down her stomach
Three strikes for morning
Three strikes for afternoon
Three strikes for night
What a sweet girl she is, with her jacket and jeans growing so tight.

Birds in the Dark
03:06

Yesterday I climbed a statue in the rain in the dark in the cloud. I sat alone and I swung my feet and I watched my shadow on the ground
The day before I sat on rooftop. In the rain in the dark in the cloud I sat alone and I watched how the street swept up dust
And now I'm perched in the limb of tree in rain in the dark in the cloud. I watch the birds with their pointing beaks peck at the feet of the crowd
Sometimes when I look for something in someone else
I realize there is nothing more in anyone but myself
Three days ago I found it in me to punch out a pole by the road
Over and over and over again I swung my hand at the wood.
Everything I hate swam before me.
And I became rage
Anger the pure energy so unforgiving in my head
All I want to do is float through city with you
All I want to do is be on the train tracks in near the warehouse at night
Hold my head near the shadow of my feet as they dangle from the pointing statue in the park
In the clowd
In the dark
In the the rain
Sometimes when I look for something in somebody else
I realize there is nothing more in anyone but myself
Hold my void under your arm, It won’t save you if you fall from the statue in the park

A Letter from the War

Planet in distress
Girl in sexy dress
People on fire
Man
Wrought with desire
Oh desire
desire
You sent me to the war
Way deep down where the people are born, where the people
Are wrought with desire
Desire
Desire
You didn't think i would come back you
Didn't think i would come back at all
You sized me up too small
And it's every boy's story
And it's every girl's story
And it's everyone's story
Nobody loves you when you're gone
You sent me to the war
Way deep down where the people are born, where the people
Are wrought with desire
Desire
Desire
I heard what you said
Under the covers
Under the covers in the dark
I heard what you said
Under the covers
You closed your eyes and you thought that you were gone.
And it's every boy's story
And it's every girl's story
And it's everyone's story
Nobody loves you when you're gone
Planet in distress
Girl in sexy dress
People on fire
Man
Wrought with desire
Oh desire
desire

For Fear Itself

There’s a dying man
I can see it in his hands
reaching out for what he thought he would never have
there’s a hiding man
his shadow is all the people that shoved him around,
I can see it in his walk
The way he drags his feet when the sun beats down
Now there’s a tiring man
He carries all that’s ever caused him harm
I can see it in his arms
The way they sway and strain and hang
There’s a dying man
I can see it in his hands
reaching out for what he thought he would never have
ooooooh aaaaah
